Sup peeps๐! Y'all ever wondered how it was like before the new train? I'm talking of the Standard Gauge Railway ๐ which has been working for quite some time now, specifically in Mombasa City. Talk of environmental pollution, speed of older trains, I mean, you could literally get angry by traveling on train. Expensive in maintenance due to its oldness. A couple of disadvantages.

On its positive side, SGR has promoted tourism in that, it has reduced the cost of commuting and increased passenger capacity. Not to sound biased but Coast region is the most popular for local tourists.
Trucks carrying containers to and from the Port have been congesting the City causing traffic on the roads. The SGR decreased the number of tracks on roads and decongesting Mombasa City resulting in to a reduction in congestion and traffic hence increased road safety.
Since everyone prefers cheaper things, Mombasa people can easily and oftenly use the SGR to travel to different places of their choice due to reduced transport cost and time travel.
On the introduction of the SGR, people have lost their jobs rendering them jobless and lowering the economy as well. Drivers, mechanics and staff working in fuel stations.
Due to the high numbers of people being sacked, various businesses have collapsed as well. Such as, fueling stations, as all goods are to be transported by train. Hotel and lodges are closed as there are no patrons.
On the construction of the SGR, the Kenyan government was at loss from the Mombasa County due to its construction and it being so costly.

You might be asking why the SGR?
The SGR was to stregnthen the socio-econimc activities in East Africa, increase transportation links and boost the country's economy.
Consequently, the Standard Gauge Railway, has both merits and demerits depending on how they are exhausted.
Again don't forget to share ๐
